While this is a first in WPL, the Indian Premier League has witnessed 14 Super Overs thus far. The first one took place in 2009 at Cape Town in a clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The latest one was in Chennai in 2021, in a Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals encounter.

The 2025 edition of the IPL is slated to begin on March 22 with a game between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens. The final will be played on May 25 at the same venue.
